Shadow Facsimile
Hello. Welcome to this corner of the Internets. I'm a software developer interested in tech, philosophy, science, books, and movies. The Shadow Facsimile Blog will be a collection of thoughts and ideas surrounding these subjects. Hope you'll find something of value in these pages.
The website Shadow Facsimile will mostly serve as an archive of various things that I intend to create, publish, and maybe someday show to my daughter when she's old enough to understand a midlife crisis (the why and the how of the site). The name Shadow Facsimile is just a silly wordplay on The Lord of the Rings character Shadowfax. Shadow Facsimile sounded unique and searchable, so there you have it.
I have a background in Computer Science and my work involves creating and maintaining infrastructure and backend code for enterprises. When it comes to code I'm not partial to any programming language or framework. I like the vastness of Java's ecosystem; I like the ease of Python and JavaScript; I like the conciseness of Go; and on occasions I do like to dabble in Haskell. I like 'em all.
My current home setup is a refurbished Thinkpad T460, a Jurassic era relic running on Endeavour OS, i3wm edition. I have used Debian based systems like Xubuntu and Pop!OS, Fedora running on Gnome, and window managers such as dwm, bspwm, xmonad in the past. But time and again I seem to gravitate towards arch based systems. I use Eclipse and VS Code as my primary IDEs at work, and at home I use Neovim for everything. I also like to use Notion to get some writing done.
Philosophically, I'm an Absurdist. I'm having a ball pushing that damned rock up the mountain.
